 The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has called on Nigeria’s para badminton team to put forth their best efforts and make the country proud as they gear up for two major international competitions in Spain.

These tournaments present a significant opportunity for Nigeria’s para badminton athletes to compete on the global stage and gain international recognition.

The first competition, the 2025 Spanish Level 2 International Para Badminton Championship, is set to take place in Victoria, Spain, from March 4 to 9, 2025. Representing Nigeria in the singles category are:

Eniola Mariam Bolaji (Women’s SL3 – Singles)

Okoro Chinyere Lucky (Women’s SL4 – Singles)

Chukwuemeka Ijeoma Gift (Women’s SL4 – Singles)

Eze Chukwuebuka Sunday (Men’s SL3 – Singles)

Nnanna Chigozie Jeremiah (Men’s SL4 – Singles)

Following this, three athletes will participate in the Spanish International Level 1 Para Badminton Championship, scheduled for March 12 to 16, 2025, in Toledo, Madrid. The Nigerian representatives for this event include:

Eniola Mariam Bolaji (Women’s SL3 – Singles)

Nnanna Chigozie Jeremiah (Men’s SL4 – Singles & Doubles)

Eze Chukwuebuka Sunday (Men’s SL3 – Singles & Doubles)

In addition to their individual events, Jeremiah and Eze will join forces in the Men’s SL3-SL4 Doubles category, further cementing Nigeria’s presence on the international para badminton scene.

Hon. Olopade highlighted the significance of these tournaments, noting that Nigerian para athletes have consistently showcased their resilience and skill on the global stage.

“This is yet another opportunity to prove the depth of talent in Nigerian para sports. I encourage our players to remain focused, give their best performances, and continue to uplift the nation’s reputation. The NSC remains dedicated to fostering the growth of para sports in Nigeria,” he stated.

He also underscored the need for increased investment in para sports, emphasizing better infrastructure, training, and grassroots development.

“Our para athletes have repeatedly demonstrated that they are just as capable of earning international accolades as their able-bodied peers. It is our duty to provide them with world-class training facilities, exposure, and support. The NSC is fully committed to expanding opportunities for their success,” Olopade added.

These tournaments serve as a crucial platform for Nigeria’s para badminton players to prove their capabilities, improve their global rankings, and enhance their prospects for future international competitions, including the Paralympics.
